The cross party Local Government and Communities Committee is considering the ambitions for the nation proposed by the Scottish Government in the:

The 3 main outcomes being considered by the committee are:

  • We live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe
  • We tackle poverty by sharing opportunities, wealth and power more equally
  • We grow up loved, safe and respected, so that we realise our full potential

Currently there are 11 national outcomes which are revised every 5 years. The 3 above are the ones the committee wants your views on.

The Committee would like the public to frame their answers around the following questions:

  • What do you think about the changes to the National Outcomes?
  • What do you think of any new Outcomes?
  • What do you think about the Scottish Government’s consultation on these changes?

The closing date for responses is 11th April.

The 11 proposed new national outcomes are:

  1. We have a globally competitive, entrepreneurial, inclusive and sustainable economy
  2. We respect, protect and fulfil human rights and live free from discrimination
  3. We are open, connected and make a positive contribution internationally
  4. We tackle poverty by sharing opportunities, wealth and power more equally
  5. We live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe
  6. We grow up loved, safe and respected so that we realise our full potential
  7. We are well educated, skilled and able to contribute to society

Bob Doris MSP, Convenener of the Committee, said:

“The key purpose of these revised National Outcomes is to set out a clear vision for the future, which includes how we deliver vital public services and build strong communities.

“Our Committee now wants to know people’s views on these proposed changes to Scotland’s vision for communities and public services. Are these changes helpful, desirable and appropriate?

“We will be discussing comments we receive with the Minister and the Scottish Government and whether or not these National Outcomes will deliver the kind of Scotland we all want to live in.”

  1. I think all of these aims are important and valuable Well being and economic growth my top two but I support them all Well done the team who developed these objectives Let’s hope in an Independent Scotland we can fulfill them Currently the first objective is to make the case for getting out of uk before Brexit takes away our rights We cannot go back to being governed by Mundell and Lord Forsyth and their ilk Thanks for having the consultation
