This week – 1st – 7th June is volunteers week and the islands of Orkney have always provided many organisations with people willing to contribute as a volunteer.

In fact The Orkney News, a member of Voluntary Action Orkney (VAO), is completely run by volunteers and all its contributors are too. This is its strength as a community based online newspaper. The Orkney News is independent.
