The Shires’ Country duo comes to Orkney

The UK’s biggest country superstars. The Shires, are coming to Orkney later this summer appearing at the Pickie Centre on Saturday 1st September.

The Shires 1

Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes, aka The Shires, have recorded three record-setting Top 10 albums and were the first UK country act to chart in the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart with their first album, Brave.

The duo formed in 2013 with ambitions to develop the country music scene across the UK. They have since gone from strength to strength with tours across the UK and USA as well as performances in Europe.

Their visit to Orkney will be their most northerly performance in the UK – giving the highlands and islands a unique opportunity to see the acclaimed British country duo.

The Shires said:

“We are very excited about heading to the Orkney Islands. We have many great memories of performing in Scotland and have always received such an amazing welcome. The first time a crowd sang our lyrics back to us was in Glasgow and it brought us to tears, so we’ve always loved playing in Scotland.

“Orkney will be such a unique place to visit with its own cultural identity and history, we expect it to be a fantastic experience.”

Kerry Leask, The Pickaquoy Centre’s Hospitality and Events Manager, said:

“We are thrilled that The Shires are coming to Orkney. With three Top 10 albums under their belt, alongside the fame and popularity they’ve received in the UK and the US, this is one of the biggest musical acts ever to come to Orkney.

“Generally those that live in the highlands and islands have to travel a distance to see such big name bands making it inaccessible for many people. With ‘The Shires’ coming to Orkney, folk will get to experience an extremely popular musical duo without the added costs. We couldn’t be more delighted.”

The Shires 1The Shires will perform at The Pickaquoy Centre on Saturday, 1 September. Show starts at 8pm with doors opening at 6:45pm.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, 30 June from 9am. The cost is £38.50 per person (plus £1.00 booking fee) and can be purchased at The Pickaquoy Centre box office, on 01856 87900 or online at www.seetickets.com.
