Organised by Orkney Resists they also wanted to show their support and solidarity with those in America who are suffering under Trump’s racist divisive policies.

The Orkney Picnic of Resistance was very much a family affair, with children and pets there alongside friends and relatives. It is estimated that up to 80 people were there.

The atmosphere was a positive expression of how strongly some people in Orkney feel about Donald Trumps Presidency.

Food was being shared, and people moved about chatting to friends. Although it was mostly attended by local people visitors joined in the event with some of those being Americans.

Folk brought along a variety of posters but some made them there and then.

Musicians kept the assembled crowd entertained.

Being Orkney the event ended with a raffle.

Huge demonstrations were being held across the country as people came out onto the streets in a show of strength against the abhorrent Trump policies and his racist statements.

You can watch the whole of the Orkney event on the Orkney News Facebook page.
