Poetry Corner: The Day Dream

By Richard Wallace

Grade 2  is so easy.

I just have to be there.

I sit in my chair,

I don’t talk,

I listen.

***

My friends are fun,

most of them.

I sit in my chair

I don’t talk,

I listen.

***

I love to day dream.

It’s so nice.

I sit in my chair,

I don’t talk,

I listen.

***

I love it when the sun

shines through the window,

on my back

so warm,

like a blanket.

***

Some times

I almost fall asleep.

Some times

I do;

I don’t mean to.

***

My teacher asks me

why am I always

day dreaming?

She never waits

for an answer.

***

She asks me what

I am day dreaming

about today.

I tell her my birthday;

she doesn’t believe me.

***

I could tell her

but if I did

it would make her feel bad.

I know it;

she likes me.

***

I was day dreaming

about deciding

if

I should live with

my mum or my dad.

***

This is too much for me,

I’m just a child.

I sit in my chair,

I don’t talk,

I listen.
