News from Orkney Islands Council
A ten pence increase in the price of school meals in Orkney will come into effect later this month.
From the start of the next school term, Tuesday 23 April, a two-course school meal will cost £2.30 for nursery pupils, £2.40 for primary pupils (P4 – P7) and £2.50 for secondary pupils. The current prices are £2.20, £2.30 and £2.40 respectively.
This is in line with a Council decision, taken when setting the budget for 2019 to 2020, that existing fees and charges for most Council services should increase by at least 3% from April 2019.
If your child is in Primary 1-3 then you are automatically entitled to free school meals without the need to apply. However, if you would like to apply for a school clothing allowance or assistance with school meals for a child in Primary 4 or above then you must be in receipt of certain benefits.
