On July 28th 1866 Beatrix Potter was born in Kensington, London.
She was a writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist best known for her children’s books featuring animals, such as those in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
It is probably her work as a conservationist that has had the most lasting impact. On her death in 1943 she left her lands to the National Trust. Most of what today makes up the Lake District National Park can be credited to her legacy.
We Have A Little Garden
We have a little garden,
A garden of our own,
And every day we water there
The seeds that we have sown.
We love our little garden,
And tend it with such care,
You will not find a faded leaf
Or blighted blossom there.
