We had a visit yesterday from the stoat eradication team .
The stoat eradication project started some five years ago and they are currently visiting landowners to gain permission to install stoat traps. We probably got a visit because we reported the presence of a stoat in our farmyard awhile ago .
The scheme aims to put a high density of traps in selected areas of our islands . These traps kill the stoats in a very similar fashion with an ordinary mousetrap . We were told to expect the trap installation team in about two months’ time. The installation team needs to calibrate the trap for the weight of the local stoats .
A big plus point here for us in the rural community is that they work on rats as well . I will of course be reporting on this in due course .
