The Big Lunch this year has been adapted in line with current circumstances to become The Big Virtual Lunch. The Big Lunch is about bringing people and communities together and what better way can there be than to do this through food. An initiative of The Eden Project The Big Lunch has been running since 2009 and aims to bring people and communities together for a couple of hours of fun, laughter, friendship and chat over food which this year by necessity shall take place virtually on the 6th & 7th June.

The Scotland Community Network Developer Mo Odling of Eden Project Communities told us “This year has been one of the most challenging in living memory and across the U.K. communities are working hard to keep each other safe, included and connected. In these difficult times our neighbours and local volunteers are the heart of our communities and we need more opportunities than ever to share kindness and connection.”

“The Big Virtual Lunch is an opportunity for people to share their appreciation for one another, and though this is different from our usual Big Lunches it’s still about stopping for a moment to celebrate all that’s good about our neighbours and communities. It’s still about finding ways to feel connected and remember all the great things about the people who live alongside us.”

If you’d like to take part or find out more about this years event a Virtual Big Lunch pack has been created with lots of resources full of ideas and inspiration which can be downloaded here!

You can also join the conversation on FacebookTwitter and Instagram  using the hashtags #TheBigLunch and #BigVirtualLunch to see what others are saying.

This years event may be a different format but what a great opportunity for people to spend a couple of hours coming together in what are trying times; giving you company and hopefully helping you to feel part of a great big friendship group.

The Eden Project enjoys hearing how you, your neighbours and communities stay connected so why not let them know, you can get in touch with them via e-mail
