Mohammad Ali #OnThisDay

On the 17th of January 1942, The Greatest boxer, Mohammad Ali was born.

Mohammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.in Louisville, Kentucky,USA. His sporting career and his activism for civil rights marks him out as truly one of The Greats of the 20th Century.

In 1960 he won an Olympic Gold for Boxing before turning professional and in 1964 he won the World Heavyweight Championship. That same year he changed his name to Mohammad Ali.

Refusing to serve in the Vietnam War in 1966 he was stripped of his boxing titles.

Fast of feet and wit many older people will still recall watching his bouts in the ring and on TV chat shows.

An inspirational man.

Mohammad Ali died in 2016.
