Ellen MacArthur #OnThisDay

On 7th of February 2005, Ellen MacArthur became the fastest person to sail solo around the world taking 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes 33 seconds.

Born in Derbyshire, England, Ellen MacArthur became a household name with her courage, skill and perseverance after setting off on her world record breaking sail on 28th of November 2004.

She became a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and was appointed a Knight (Chevalier) of the French Legion of Honour.

Since achieving that amazing feat, Ellen MacArthur has established the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust supporting young people and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation aimed at developing the circular economy.
