New work by Catherine Grivas will be on show in the windows of the Northlight Gallery Stromness, 27th March – 9th April .

Ordinarily, Catherine divides her time between Hoy and Stromness, however during the first lockdown when non-essential inter-island travel was forbidden, Catherine stayed full-time with her husband, Michael, in North Walls
Catherine turned to photography to provide structure to her days and expanded her documentation of wartime buildings around Lyness to include those on nearby South Walls, as well as setting herself the challenge of posting one new image each day on social media to provide a snapshot of nature and beauty for those locked down in cities.
Familiarity with ones subject matter and the regular re-photographing same sites and subjects can inspire new ways of seeing. Within the context of isolation the view from a window can take on a new level of importance. Lockdown has precipitated for many of us a need to look within as well as looking out and perhaps also a fascination with looking into the windows of others on our daily walks.
