Sweden #OnThisDay

6th of June is Sweden’s National Day.

On this day (6th of June) Sweden laid its foundations as an independent state in 1523 when Gustav Vasa became king and in 1809 established a constitutional monarchy with a new constitution empowering the Riksdag (parliament) after 20 years of having an absolute monarchy.

It became a public holiday in 2005.
