We are very fortunate to live in a truly beautiful place and that’s why it is important to keep it that way.
Unfortunately even as stunning as the islands are litter can still spoil our environment. It may be accidental, having blown out of bins, it may have washed up on our shores from elsewhere, but it may also be deliberately left behind or dropped.
Greener Orkney will be out and about this weekend at Scapa picking up litter and they could do with some extra helpers.
Anyone interested in helping can meet up at Scapa at 10.30 on Saturday 12th. Helpers will be provided with bags, gloves, litter pickers etc so people only need to bring themselves- though the tide will be quite high so waterproof shoes are a must!
Please contact Angela Fitzpatrick (811421) or send her a message so that she knows if you intend to go.
There is another litter pick up on the 19th of June at the back of Tesco/Lidl.
Angela explained that if anyone wishes to organise their own litter pick up then Greener Orkney can lend them litter pickers and provide them with other materials for example gloves and bags.
This is all part of a national ‘Scotland is Stunning’ campaign which runs most of June until 20th.
