Bits & Pieces At The Ness

I previously presented a walk around the dig at the Ness of Brodgar this year https://theorkneynews.scot/2021/07/19/small-is-beautiful-2/, focusing on the actual archaeology – well – mostly!

Now I’ll present some of the bits & pieces which are to be seen which are more peripheral, but still part of the place and what is happening there …..

You might have seen ‘The Digger’s Rest’ before….

Now there’s also ‘The Digger’s Den’…..

People like to carve in stone – now – as then…..

Making sure we get the message – STAY SAFE!!!!

Remembrance of Digs Past……This ‘holy stone’ used to stand by the Art Hut/Artacabin – lair of the Artists in Residence……

New technology – beyond my ken – but useful to most, these days………….…..

Still tyred………….

And finally – Oystercatcher standing guard over Trench J……

The dig is open until the 11th August, daily  – not weekends – from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

As in previous years there is a daily Dig Diary on the website   https://www.nessofbrodgar.co.uk/dig-diary-monday-june-28-2021/   which means that folk can follow how the dig progresses – either after their visit, or if they can’t get to Orkney.

And…….unashamed begging………PLEASE DONATE TO HELP TO KEEP THE DIG GOING!

THANK YOU!
