Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine For 12 – 15 Year Olds

All those aged 12 – 15 in Scotland will be offered one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine from Monday 20th of September.

Children and young people aged 12-15 who have specific underlying conditions or disabilities are already covered by previous JCVI advice and will be offered two doses, eight weeks apart.

Humza Yousaf, Health Secretary in the Scottish Government, said:

“As the CMOs recommended, informed consent must be at the heart of decision making so we will ensure that there is clear communication with this age group and their parents so they understand the potential benefits, potential side effects and the balance between them.

“A new leaflet from Public Health Scotland will be circulated to ensure parents, carers and young people have all the information they need. Individual choice is central to this, and the decisions of parents, carers and children will be respected.

As we covered in The Orkney News making an informed choice is vital for young people to make up their own minds as to whether or not to have the vaccine.
