Showing at the Northlight Gallery Stromness starting Saturday 9th October is an exhibition of paintings born out of the artist’s fascination with the raw power of figurative expressionism and automatic art.
Giuliana Criscuolo explains that she found the stories and characters of these paintings ‘in the paint’ itself. Through a process of meditative observation of the paint applied in an apparently random way, shapes emerged to guide the hand of the painter to tell a story. During the lockdown it felt good to ’liberate’ some of her subconscious feelings in response to world events in this way and let them gain a voice.
The exhibition runs in the gallery windows until Thursday 21st of October.
