Today:

Frequent showers through the day, briefly heavy with the chance of some hail. Some sunshine this morning, but becoming cloudier this afternoon. Cold and windy with strong to gale northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

A mix of clear periods and frequent showers, some longer spells of rain possible at first this evening. Showers easing later in the night. Strong to gale northwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Friday:

Sunny intervals and occasional showers, drier weather developing through the afternoon. Strong northwesterly winds easing during the afternoon. Rather cold. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Dry start on Saturday, rain spreading east later, windy with southerly gales. Mainly dry but windy on Sunday, chance of showers on Monday.

A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Orkney from SEPA.

This alert is for coastal flooding. Due to a combination of strong winds, spring tides and storm surge, areas exposed to the north could see some wave and spray overtopping overnight tonight. The greatest risk is around the time of high water which is at 23:10 BST in Kirkwall.
