An Antidote

By Bernie Bell

Thursday the 4th of November 2021 I made the mistake of catching the beginning of the BBC 6 o’clock News.  The main news was about a mortuary attendant who had been having sex with dead people – how must their families feel?

And also about Paterson resigning, which means that, in effect, he gets away with his wrong-doing.

He’s got loads of money, he’s made loads more  money while in office, and he will make more.

What a world, and what people are in it.

I then spent some time trying to keep my head above water, trying to lay those thoughts to rest.

We watched an episode of ‘Later with Jools Holland’ which we had recorded, where Elton John was choosing his favourites from Jools’ archives – among them, Christine and the Queens singing and dancing ‘Tilted’……

It was an antidote – she is an antidote. I’m not saying that one song, one dance, one lovely young woman drives away the darkness, but…there she was, with her dancers, being “actually good”.

I’ve seen her interviewed, I think that was on ‘Jools’ too, and she is a lovely young woman. She is who and what she is, but not being precious or painful about it.  She sings and dances, is “actually good”, and, for me, at that moment in time, she was an antidote.

It does me good to know that there are people like her in the world, doing what they do, being as they are.

An antidote to redress the balance…..some.

We watched ‘Tilted’ three times through, and when I went to bed, I slept soundly.  Thank you, Christine.
