‘Quantum Leap’ Is A Boon

By Bernie Bell

These days, when I watch television I want to watch things which are entertaining, interesting – sometimes instructive. I don’t want to face hard things and nastiness – there’s enough of that to deal with in the real world.  Why folk watch EastEnders and Corrie in these times is beyond me, but each to their own.

I watched the series ‘Quantum Leap’ when it was first on television in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and I enjoyed it then, so when I saw that it’s being repeated on ‘Pick’  at 6 pm, I set the whole series up to record, and now we’re watching it……and it’s perfect!

There are ideas – about quantum physics and time travel, and about being human – how we respond and behave.  Sam has to adapt very quickly to all kinds of ways of being and situations, whilst knowing that he has the responsibility of being there to put something right.  I remember that in one episode Sam ‘leaps’  into being a woman, and in another he ‘leaps’ into being a brown person.

There’s also humour, some of it subtle and sharp, some to just to raise a smile.  In the episode we watched yesterday evening we encountered a young Buddy Holly singing ‘Piggy Sueeee’ to a piglet – and Sam advises him to change it to Peggy!

Having found something which can be relied on to be A GOOD THING to watch, I just thought I’d mention it.
