A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain. Drier and brighter conditions will soon reach Orkney with Shetland then brightening up in the afternoon. Strong to gale force southerly winds, veering southwesterly in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C.


A mixture of clear spells and a few blustery showers, these heaviest across Shetland. A mild night with strong southwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Sunday 2nd January:

A day of bright spells and showers. The showers will be heaviest in the afternoon and evening. Fresh or strong southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Spells of rain on Monday then wintry showers and northwesterly gales later. Cold with wintry showers on Tuesday. Mainly dry and bright on Wednesday then rain spreading east later.
