Today 2nd January:

A day of bright or sunny spells and a few passing showers. The showers may merge into longer spells of rain over Shetland late in the afternoon. Fresh or strong southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

A band of rain will move southwards, turning to sleet for a time. Clear spell and wintry showers following later. Strong winds turning northwesterly, increasing to gale force at times. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Monday 3rd January:

A mixture of sunny spells and sleet or snow showers. It will feel bitterly cold with gale force northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Very cold Tuesday with wintry showers, driven through on northwesterly severe gales. Further wintry showers on Wednesday but strong northerlies gradually easing. Dry start then turning wet and windy Thursday.
