Today 4th January:

Severe northwesterly gales, perhaps storm force for Orkney around lunch, easing for a time in the afternoon over Shetland. Frequent showers, wintry at first though tending to fall mainly as rain in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Tonight:

It will become very windy again in the evening for Shetland but winds starting to ease later in the night. Wintry showers continuing overnight but a few clearer spells too. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Wednesday 5th January:

A blustery start on Wednesday with further showers, turning quite readily to snow during the morning. Brighter weather in the afternoon with less showers and winds becoming light. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A cold dry start on Thursday but becoming wet and windy for time with southerly winds. Rain turning to showers on Friday. A brighter morning on Saturday but rain later.
