Clear or sunny intervals and occasional sleet or snow showers. The showers will become fewer and lighter in the afternoon as the strong to gale force northerly winds slowly moderate. Maximum temperature 4 °C.
Tonight:
Apart from the odd isolated wintry shower it will be a mainly dry evening and night with some clear spells. Moderate northerly breeze falling light, allowing a frost. Minimum temperature -2 °C.
Thursday 6th January:
A dry bright morning and staying mainly dry over Shetland. Thickening cloud will bring rain to Orkney in afternoon reaching Shetland towards evening, with south to southeasterly gales. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Bright and showery on Friday. Saturday starting dry and bright then cloud and rain later with strong southeast winds. Shetland starting wet on Sunday then sunny spells and mainly dry.
