Today 8th January:

Cloud soon thickening with periods of rain pushing across Orkney by mid-morning, as southerly winds strengthen to near gale. Rain passing to Shetland for afternoon, while winds ease, veer westerly over Orkney, as brighter spells and showers follow from west. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Orkney keeping a mix of clear spells and scattered showers and southwest breezes. Shetland cloudy with longer periods of rain and strong southeast winds which gradually ease from the south. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Sunday 9the January:

Some early brightness for Orkney, otherwise rather cloudy and showery during the morning. Turning largely dry and increasingly bright from the north through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Monday turning unsettled with rain and strong to gale winds soon spreading from west. Tuesday mainly dry and bright. Wednesday cloudy with drizzly showers and southwest gales.
