A touch of frost at first then a mainly dry and bright morning and early afternoon. Rain reaching Orkney in the afternoon, spreading to Shetland early in the evening. Light winds, becoming fresh or strong from the south later. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Rain, heavy at times with snow on hills, followed by clear spells and a few wintry showers later. Brisk southerly winds turning northwesterly and strengthening, with severe gales over Orkney. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Monday 31st January:

A cold day with bright spells and sleet or snow showers. Northwesterly gales easing. Outbreaks of rain will spread east through the evening. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Overnight rain clearing followed by rain showers on Tuesday. A dry start then rain arriving on Wednesday. Rain then heavy wintry showers on Thursday. Often windy, severe gales on Tuesday.
