Cloudy start with periods of rain across Orkney, which clears to the south by late morning, leaving sunshine and wintry showers, these turning heavy and frequent later across Shetland. Strong north to northwest winds developing from mid-day. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Clear spells and isolated wintry showers for the evening, which turn more frequent for a time overnight. Strong north to northwest winds backing west. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Friday 11th February:

Mix of brighter spells and occasional, initially wintry, showers pushed over the Northern Isles on brisk west, later southwest winds. Band of rain crossing from west during evening. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Chance of periods of rain at first Saturday, also to a lesser extend later Sunday, otherwise windy with showers, these turning wintry later Monday.

  1. We’ve just been watching that very Heron – known to us as Kraak – catching, washing and eating yet another frog. Then Postie arrived, and Kraak – flew.
