After Orcadia: Northlight Gallery Exhibition

After Orcadia, an exhibition of images and poetry by photographer Rebecca Marr and writer Mark Edmonds opens at Northlight Gallery, Stromness on Friday 02 September.

The exhibition continues a collaboration that began with work on Orcadia – a book which tracked how Neolithic Orcadians made sense of the world around them.

Mark Edmonds said:

Orcadia was the first time that the two of us had worked together. It was a rewarding process, an unbounded conversation about how to make sense of the surviving fragments of that time’.

Rebecca added ‘And we’re still exploring’, three years down the line, we’ve found ourselves revisiting photographs and finding new connections.’

The results of those conversations: photographs and an accompanying book, can be seen for a fortnight from 02 September at the Northlight Gallery in Stromness. The gallery will be open Monday to Saturday 11-4pm. Either Rebecca or Mark, or both, will be in the gallery each day. The exhibition can be viewed at www.afterorcadia.wordpress.com

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Due to health difficulties, I’m one of the folk who hasn’t gone indoors where there are unknown people since 2020 – except when medically necessary.

There isn’t a lot I miss, but when I saw this exhibition advertised in the OISF programme I was…..glum. I like what Rebecca does and I like what Mark does – both literary and archeologically – so I was glum about missing this exhibition.

Then this appeared in TON and I followed the link and I can look at the images and I just went to say thank you. That is a very thoughtful thing to do.

I know it’s not the same as direct contact – but it’s sure as hell better than nothing!

And now, I’m going to look at them again and enthuse about them in my blog… http://www.spanglefish.com/berniesblog/blog.asp
