Frequent, occasionally heavy, showers. Outbreaks across Orkney of rain and sleet, but sleet and snow for Shetland, with significant accumulations and drifting away from east coasts in the strong northeast winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
Tonight:
Quite frequent showers, probably of rain early evening across Orkney, otherwise of snow, brought on strong to near gale northeasterly winds. Minimum temperature -2 °C.
Tuesday 13th December:
Winter continues with strong north to northeast wind driving snow showers across the northern Isles, these turning frequent and heavy late in the day. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Wednesday and Thursday brings frequent sleet and snow showers, which ease into Friday. Increasingly dry, bright early Friday, then winds turning southwest with snow, rain spreading from Atlantic later.
