Today many people have stopped sending Christmas cards preferring instead to give a donation to a charity.

During World War 1 troops were sent beautiful embroidered cards by family and loved ones back home. The above card was donated by Mrs J Moar to the Orkney Fossil and Heritage Centre which houses her collection from this period.
