Today 16th December:

Mainly cloudy with further wintry showers, these could lead to some icy surfaces in the morning. The showers slowly clearing from Orkney during the afternoon to give some brightness to end the day. Winds mainly light. Maximum temperature 4 °C.


Mostly dry with clear spells over Orkney but a few wintry showers continuing over Shetland. These could lead to some icy patches. Freshening south or southwesterly winds. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Saturday 17th December:

Largely cloudy with a few showers, these falling as rain or sleet. Best of the brightness across Orkney. Fresh southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Outbreaks of rain, preceded by snow on high ground, spread north on Sunday with strengthening winds. Much milder with rain or showers on Monday and Tuesday.
