A rather cold day, perhaps some early rain then bright spells and showers and these will become increasingly wintry, with snow to low levels over Shetland in the afternoon. Brisk northeasterly winds, near gale force across Shetland. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Clear spells and scattered wintry showers, with snow also falling to lower levels over Orkney at times. North or northeast winds easing a little overnight but still cold. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Friday 23rd December:

Bright spells and a scattering of wintry showers, though mainly rain or sleet at lower levels over Orkney. Northeast winds easing, but fresher easterly winds over Orkney later. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Snow spreading north Saturday, then turning to rain as southeast winds strengthen. Rain clearing to showers Christmas Day. Severe west or northwest gales developing into Monday, bringing snow showers.
