Today 30th December:

A dry start for Shetland before the rain extends from Orkney during the morning. The rain heavy and persistent at times and turning to sleet or wet snow at times later. Strengthening north or northeasterly winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Rain, sleet and snow soon clearing to wintry showers. Cold with northerly gales, but winds easing overnight with an ice risk. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Saturday 31st December:

Bright spells and wintry showers, the showers perhaps merging at times. Cold with moderate or fresh north or northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Often dry, bright and cold on New Year’s Day, although the odd wintry shower possible. Bright with occasional showers on Monday then strengthening southerly winds and rain on Tuesday.
