Today 2nd January:

A mostly cloudy morning with showers or, especially for Shetland, some longer spells of occasionally heavy rain. Becoming brighter for the afternoon but still some heavy showers around. Light winds for Shetland with the occasionally fresh northwesterly over Orkney easing. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Clear spells with showers dying out towards midnight. Then dry overnight with some long clear spells leading to a touch of frost for a time before southerly winds freshen. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Tuesday 3rd January:

Dry, bright morning for Shetland but cloud and rain soon reach Orkney. The rain spreads to Shetland for the afternoon with Orkney becoming drier and brighter. Occasionally strong southeasterly winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rain clearing early Wednesday then clear or sunny spells and occasional showers through the rest of the week, the showers perhaps wintry at times, especially for Shetland.
