Today 3rd January:
Bright and dry start with sunny spells. However, cloud soon increases across Orkney with rain by late morning. The rain spreads to Shetland this afternoon, but drier, brighter conditions reach Orkney in the early afternoon. Strong southeasterly winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
Tonight:
Mainly dry with clear spells across Orkney this evening with rain over Shetland clearing. Cloud increases again overnight with both Orkney and Shetland becoming wet. Winds easing and turning northeasterly. Minimum temperature 3 °C.
Wednesday 4th January:
A cloudy morning with outbreaks of rain gradually dying out, then brighter in the afternoon with occasionally heavy showers. Occasionally strong northeasterly then northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Bright with a few showers Thursday with winds becoming light. Then unsettled through Friday and Saturday with showers or longer spells of occasionally heavy rain. Breezy at times.
