Deaths Involving #Covid Weekly Update

Published by National Records of Scotland on 9th February 2023, Deaths involving Covid are as follows:

  • As of 5th February 2023, there have been a total of 16,744 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
  • In week 05 there were 30 deaths involving COVID-19 (25 fewer than the previous week). 
  • The provisional total number of all deaths registered in Scotland in week 05 of 2023 (30th January to 5th February) was 1,314 (21 or 2% below the 5-year average)

Those figures in more detail:

  • Age 45 – 64: 1 death, Female
  • Age 65 – 74: 5 deaths, 3 Female, 2 Male
  • Age 75 – 84: 10 deaths, 5 Female, 5 Male
  • Age 85+ : 14 deaths, 5 Female, 9 Males

There were 2 deaths in Care Homes, 2 at Home/Non Institutional Setting and 26 in Hospital.

There were 1,314 deaths due to all causes, 21 fewer than the 5 year average.

Of the 30 Deaths involving Covid, Covid was the main cause in 18 of them.

There were 183 Respiratory deaths, an excess of 33 on the 5 year average.
