Published by the National Records of Scotland on 9th March 2023 is the weekly update on Covid related deaths as follows:
- As of 5th March 2023, there have been a total of 16,929 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 09 there were 38 deaths involving COVID-19 (9 fewer than the previous week).
- The provisional total number of all deaths registered in Scotland in week 09 of 2023 (27th February to 5th March) was 1,225 (73 or 6% above the 5-year average).

Deaths involving COVID-19 are deaths where COVID-19 has been identified as being involved in the death by a doctor, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributory cause of death.
Those figures in more detail:
Age 45 – 64: 3 deaths, 1 Female, 2 Male
Age 65 – 74: 6 deaths, 4 Female, 2 Male
Age 75 – 84: 13 deaths, 7 Female, 6 Male
Age 85+ : 16 deaths, 4 Female, 12 Male
There were 4 deaths in Care Homes, 3 at Home/ Non Institutional Setting and 31 deaths in Hospital.
There were 1,225 deaths due to all causes. An excess of 73 on the 5 year average. Of the 38 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the main cause in 26 of them.
