Today 18th March:
A dry but cloudy start over Orkney. Rain spreads north from around midday, turning heavier later in the afternoon. Dry across Shetland with sunny spells, but clouding over from the south through the afternoon. Strengthening easterly winds. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outbreaks of rain across the Northern Isles this evening. Turning drier across Orkney overnight, but rain persisting across Shetland with some sleet and hill snow. Strong winds at times. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
Sunday 19th March:
Scattered showers with some bright or sunny spells. Showers becoming increasingly isolated in the afternoon. Fresh to strong northerly winds falling light. Maximum temperature 7 °C.
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Light winds, some patchy rain over Shetland, dry over Orkney Monday before rain and strong winds spread north. Further rain through Tuesday and Wednesday, heavy at times.
