Published by the National Records of Scotland are the weekly deaths on 6th April 2023.
- As of 2nd April 2023, there have been a total of 17,222 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 13 there were 81 deaths involving COVID-19 (8 more than the previous week).
- The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 13 of 2023 (27th March to 2nd April) was 1,262 (164 or 15% above the 5-year average).

Those figures in more detail:
Age 45 – 64: 11 deaths, 6 Female, 5 Male
Age 65 – 74: 11 deaths, 8 Female, 3 Male
Age 75 – 84: 30 deaths, 14 Female, 16 Male
Age 85+ : 29 deaths, 14 Female, 15 Male
There were 10 Covid related deaths in Care Homes, 8 at Home/ Non Institutional Setting and 63 in Hospital.
There were 1,262 deaths due to all causes, an excess of 164 taken over a 5 year average.
There were excess deaths across all categories: Cancer +8, Dementia/Alzheimer’s +9, Circulatory +15, Respiratory +36, and other causes +71.
Of the 81 Covid related deaths, Covid was the underlying cause in 50 of them.
There was 1 Covid related death in Orkney.
