Published by the National Records of Scotland are the weekly deaths (including those which are Covid related) on 4th May 2023
- The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 17 of 2023 (24th to 30th April) was 1,199 (87 or 8% above the 5-year average).
- As of 30th April 2023, there have been a total of 17,515 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
- In week 17 there were 58 deaths involving COVID-19 (11 fewer than the previous week).

Those figures in more detail for deaths involving Covid:
Age 15 – 44: 1 death, female
Age 45 – 64: 7 deaths, 4 female, 3 male
Age 65 – 74: 7 deaths: 4 female, 3 male
Age 75 – 84: 23 deaths, 10 female, 13 male
Age 85+ : 20 deaths, 5 female, 15 male
Seven of the deaths were in Care Homes, 4 at Home/Non Institutional Setting, 46 in Hospital, and 1 in other Institution.
Of the 58 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the underlying cause in 38 of them.
There were 1,199 deaths due to all cause, an excess of 87 taken over a 5 year average.
