Declining But Continuing Trend in Excess Deaths in Scotland

  • The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 27 of 2023 (3rd of July to 9th July) was 1,068 (18 or 2% above the 5-year average).  
  • As of 9th of July 2023, there have been a total of 17,718 deaths registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
  • In week 27 there were 8 deaths involving COVID-19 (2 fewer than the previous week).

Deaths Involving Covid

Of the 8 deaths involving Covid, Covid was the underlying cause in 7 of them. One death took place in a Care Home and 7 in Hospital.

Age 45 – 64: 1 death, female

Age 65 – 74: 1 death, female

Age 75 – 84: 3 deaths, 1 female, 2 male

Age 85+ : 3 deaths, 2 female, 1 male
