The John Rae Society (JRS) held its annual commemoration of the birth of Arctic explorer Dr John Rae on Saturday 30th of September 2023.

After a short piper led walk to Rae’s unassuming grave in the St Magnus Cathedral Kirkyard there were readings which focussed on the life and legacy of this great Arctic explorer who discovered the fate of the Franklin expedition and mapped huge swathes of the region.
Early flowering spring bulbs were planted which will bring a touch of colour to the grave next year although there are always fresh flowers in vases (thank you Mrs Adams).
