A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Orkney.

This is a coastal flood alert

On Monday, rough seas and high winds could lead to spray and wave overtopping in exposed coastal areas and causeways, around the times of the high tides (11:00/23:00).

Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Churchill Barriers.

The prevailing weather forecast, along with high tides and large waves means that flooding from the sea is possible on Monday 13th November. Southeasterly / easterly winds gusting to force 8 means that a combination of wave overtopping, spray and debris may result in the closure of the Churchill Barriers. To find out if the road and causeway are closed, please follow the Orkney Islands Council Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/OIC_Roads. The highest risk is either side of the high tides, which are on Monday morning around 11:00am and again at 11:30pm in the evening.
