Today 21st December:

Northwest severe gale to storm force winds easing to near gale by late afternoon. Frequent blustery showers heavy at times with the risk of hail, also outbreaks wintry at times for afternoon, particularly across Shetland. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Northwest winds strong occasionally gale force. Frequent showers, mostly wintry and occasionally heavy, but outbreaks turning more to rain over Orkney towards dawn. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Friday 22nd December:

Strong to near gale northwest winds pushing frequent showers across the Northern Isles, mostly wintry, but turning to rain at times over Orkney. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mainly dry and bright start Saturday across Shetland, otherwise overcast with periods of snow then rain. Brighter spells and showers from Sunday with chance some wintry outbreaks for Christmas.
