Cloudy with patchy rain and fresh southeast winds across Shetland, perhaps near gale at first. Some rain in the morning over Orkney, but turning dry with sunny spells here in the afternoon, light to moderate winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with some clear spells early evening across Orkney, otherwise a cloudy evening and night across the Northern Isles with outbreaks of rain. Increasing southeast winds, near gale across Shetland. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Tuesday 2nd January:

A dull cloudy day with strong to gale force southeast winds and patchy rain at times, more persistent rain spreading north later in the day. Turning colder across Shetland. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Strong southeast winds, gales on Wednesday. Generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain, this often most persistent across Shetland, perhaps turning to sleet or snow at times.
