Flood Warning: Barriers, Longhope & Hoy, Sanday, St Margaret’s Hope. Flood Alert: Orkney


FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Churchill Barriers.

The prevailing weather forecast, along with high tides and large waves means that flooding from the sea is expected. West winds also means that a combination of wave overtopping, spray and debris may result in the closure of the Churchill Barriers. The highest risk is either side of the high tides, which are on Wednesday 24th at 07:00 GMT.

FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Longhope and Hoy.

A combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions means that flooding from the sea is expected to affect low lying land, roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as at other low lying roads including at North Ness, the Wyng and at Kirk Hope. Flooding impacts are expected around the time of high tide on Wednesday 24th at 07:45 GMT.

FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Sanday.

A combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions means that flooding from the sea is expected on Sanday. Any low-lying coastal roads and properties across the island exposed to the prevailing wind will be subject to significant wave spray impacts. Flooding impacts are expected around the time of high tide Wednesday 24th at 08:00 GMT.

A combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions means that flooding from the sea is expected to affect low lying land, roads and properties at St Margaret?s Hope. Wave overtopping is expected to affect low lying parts of St Margaret?s Hope Flooding impacts are expected around the time of high tide on Wednesday at 07:30 GMT.

This is an alert for coastal flooding. In this area, on Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a risk of isolated impacts from wave and spray overtopping due to a surge and high winds associated with Storm Jocelyn, particularly at high tide.
