On 28th of January 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger  exploded 73 seconds after lift off from Cape Canaveral, killing all 7 crew members.

To honour the astronauts lost in the Challenger accident, as well as those lost in the Apollo 1 fire and the Columbia accident, every year at the end of January, NASA holds a Day of Remembrance. NASA Remembering Challenger and her Crew
