The Organising Committee for the 2025 Orkney International Island Games regret to announce that Clay Target Shooting have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the 20th International Island Games in Orkney in July 2025.
Kirsty Talbot, Games Director for Orkney 2025 stated
“We were notified by the Orkney Clay Pigeon Club of their decision to withdraw from the Island Games event in 2025. We have been made aware of some of the unique challenges that the Orkney Clay Pigeon Club have faced and despite providing all the assurances that we can, have, with regret, accepted their decision.
“We are of course very disappointed to lose a key sports partner at this stage. We continue to work closely with the other 12 sports, funding partners, key stakeholders and sponsors, focussing on delivering a world class sporting event in Orkney in July 2025.”
In 2025, the Orkney International Island Games will be the largest multi-sports event anywhere in Europe, and will provide a brilliant platform upon which to promote Orkney in all its aspects – from its natural beauty and its welcoming people, to its amazing products and future-facing businesses and industries
Jorgen Pettersson, Chair of the International Island Games Association, said,
”We are naturally disappointed about the withdrawal of Clay Shooting from the Games in 2025 but we have to accept the decision from the local organisers. We fully support the Organising Committee in their endeavours to deliver a world class-Games in Orkney.”
