Updates: Vaccination Drop-In Clinics #Covid & #Flu

NHS Orkney dates for vaccination drop in clinics against both Flu and Covid at the Balfour are on:

  • Monday 4 March 10am – 12pm
  • Monday 11 March 10am – 12pm
  • Monday 18 March 10am – 12pm
  • Monday 25 March 10am – 12pm

If you are eligible for vaccination and have missed your appointment, or you are a household contact or carer and haven’t yet had your vaccine.

During the current winter 2023/24 vaccination programme a total of 1,650,022 Influenza (Adult 18+), 538,641 Influenza (Children 6 months to 17 years) and 1,390,592 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the Scottish population since 4 September 2023. Public Health Scotland (29/02/2024)

The number of acute COVID-19 admissions to hospital of the week ending 25th February 2024 is 88, down from 119 the previous week.

The monitoring of Scotland’s local waste water for  fragments of coronavirus’ ribonucleic acid (RNA) continues.

The latest published figures for the area covered by the Kirkwall waste water system are for the 13th February 2024.

National Records of Scotland have also published their weekly update, 29th February 2024

The provisional total number of deaths registered in Scotland in week 8 of 2024 (19th February to 25th February) was 1,245 (120 or 9% lower than the expected number of deaths in week 8).  There were 20 deaths mentioning COVID-19.

Those figures in more detail:

  • Age 65 – 74: 2 deaths, male
  • Age 75 – 84: 7 deaths, 4 female, 3 male
  • Age 85+ : 11 deaths, 5 female, 6 male

There were 20 deaths involving covid, covid was the underlying cause in 10 of the,

Nineteen of the deaths were in Hospital , and one death occurred at Home/ Non-Institutional Setting.

There were 1,245 deaths due to all causes.
