ZX Spectrum: The Next Generation explores the weird and wonderful world of software available for the much-loved Sinclair (later Amstrad) ZX Spectrum, an 8-bit home computer from the 1980s, and it’s modern successor the ZX Spectrum Next. Watch and subscribe on the Orkney News YouTube channel.

Maggie Thatcher Milk Snatcher was created by Steve McCrea for the 2013 Comp.Sys.Sinclair Crap Games Competition. The premise of the game is as follows:

“The year is 1971. Having recently scrapped the free school milk program for over sevens, Education Secretary Margaret Thatcher grows impatient because younger children are still getting free milk, and misguidedly decides to take matters into her own hands.

You play as a primary school teacher, attempting to deliver a dozen pints of milk to your pupils before Maggie gets to you. If you succeed, you move on to the next class. If you fail, it’s game over!”

Maggie Thatcher Milk Snatcher was released as freeware and can be found on archive.org. It makes use of the limited sound capabilities of the Spectrum to play back a speech sample which is distorted, difficult to decipher, and evidently the highlight of the game.
